Eco House

An eco house is designed to incorporate as much environmentally friendly construction techniques as possible. They often use the latest in photovoltaic technology to provide the main source of power for the home. The idea is to make the home as self sustaining as possible, with as low a carbon footprint as can be achieved.

An eco house should be carbon neutral, from the basic construction materials all the way to the landscaping. Any wood that is used should be either from a sustainable source, or salvaged. Wood flooring, for example, can often be reclaimed from a previously demolished home.

Using non-toxic paints and finishes are a staple of an eco house. Silicate dispersion paint is often used due to its solvent-free and anti-microbial characteristics. These paints are also extremely durable, lasting much longer than any latex paint.
