Sustainable Living

A commitment to sustainable living is one of the best things that can be done to help improve the environment. Keeping waste to a minimum and living “smaller” can go a long way towards reducing our carbon footprint. There are, fortunately, a number of ways this can be done.

Sustainable living often starts in the home. Today’s homes are on average 40% larger than those of just 50 years ago, despite the fact that the average family has become reduced in size over the same period of time. This has produced a serious problem of energy inefficiency which can be addressed through better insulation and the use of alternative energy source such as solar and wind.

Buying locally grown foods, or even starting your own backyard garden, can also be an easy way to achieve sustainable living. Gardens especially, have become an increasingly popular way to reduce the amount of money we spend on food. Homegrown food also reduces the amount of energy used to transport and store food from far away sources.
